New Club Callsign – W9OB

On March 29th, the HCARC was awarded the vanity callsign of W9OB.  This callsign is the former call of Murl Rogers.  We honor him and thank him for everything he did for the HCARC and ham radio in the Henry County area.  Thanks to Gene, K9UOK, for helping the club get the vanity call.

As a result of this action, we have changed our club website’s domain name to be  Please bookmark the site and check back often for updates.

Thank you for your support as we continue to promote fun and fellowship through amateur radio.

March 5th Hidden Transmitter Hunt

A dreary day didn’t stop local hams from participating in the HCARC hidden transmitter hunt on 3/5/11.  After the hunt, we enjoyed some fellowship at the Pizza King.  Pictured from left to right, Andrew (KC9RVO), Gene (K9UOK), and Ben (KC9QEW).

Club Field Trip – USS Indianapolis Radio Room

At our last meeting we discussed a possible field trip for the HCARC members to the USS Indianapolis radio room in downtown Indy.  Looking over the calendar, I have found two weekends that may work with my schedule and need some feedback from you.  Those weekends are:

Weekend of February 19-20
Weekend of March 5-6

Please let me know if you would like to attend as well as whether either of these weekends fit your schedule as well.  Once I gather enough information, I will coordinate with Gene, K9UOK, and have him set it up with the good people with the USS Indianapolis.

December Meeting & Holiday Gathering

Thanks to all who made it out to our December meeting and Holiday party.  We had a very nice time at Pizza King on Monday.  It was nice to see Howard, KC9JRW, in attendance after his move to Kansas.

Here’s wishing everyone a very happy New Year and I’m looking forward to good year with the HCARC in 2011.

ARRL Affiliation

I just wanted to pass along a bit of good news in relation to the club.  As of today, the Henry County Amateur Radio has been re-affiliated with the ARRL.  The link on the ARRL website is as follows:

The affiliation provides us with some great benefits that we can take advantage of to help our club flourish including driving potential new members to our website and being a part of the club commission program.  A positive step in the right direction for the HCARC.

Due to the impending snow and corresponding Winter Weather Advisory, the breakfast and hidden transmitter hunt has been canceled.  There is no make-up date for this event so we will plan another hunt in the spring.  Stay safe and warm!!

The HCARC will be hosting a hidden transmitter hunt on Saturday, December 4th.  The schedule of events is as follow:

7:00a – Breakfast at Bob Evans
8:30a – Start of the Hunt

We will try to do two separate hunts as time allows.

This event is open to anyone who is interested in attending whether you’re a licensed amateur or not. We can always use extra people to help others with driving, navigating and handling of equipment.

We hope you can join us on December 4th for fellowship and fun!!
